1959 - Purchased Land / Ranch

60 years ago, the once barren rangeland we now know as Wolf Lakes Park was purchased, and Bob and Harriet Wolf’s dream began to take shape. With their strong faith in God and with much prayer, 640 acres (one square mile) at $520 per acre was purchased, much to the hesitation of their banker! They knew that with 16 wells, rivers and canals, and an abundance of water, it would work! Bob was a hard- working farmer with a vision, and together they set out to establish a legacy for their family…and they saw it through, hands on, every step of the way. The Lord richly blessed them and provided for all their needs.

1971 - Started Construction
of a 46-acre lake

In the fall of 1971, the construction of a grand lake began (after 2 enlargements it now covers 46 acres of the park). Used heavy equipment was purchased, and the Wolf Family completed the project after six months. At that time the lake provided irrigation water for many crops, including watermelons, almonds, grapes and hay for their cattle. For the next 13 years the Wolf Family continued to farm and dream of what else the land could become.

1984 – From Dreams to Reality

John (Bob and Harriet’s son) and his wife Paula began exploring ideas of what to do with the almond orchards that surrounded their mobile home on the lake. With Paula’s love of entertaining and gardening and John’s interest in landscape design, it seemed like hosting functions along the lake might be the perfect plan for them. And so they began the journey to make this dream a reality. During this time John continued to farm alongside his dad and Paula worked at a pediatrician’s office so the family would have health insurance. All while raising three young children, Scott, Jordan and Elyse.

1986 - Wolf Lakes Park Opens for Business

John and Paula dedicated their portion of the land to the Lord and put this new venture into God’s hands. They sold their mobile home for $4000 in order to obtain the necessary permits to open the park. It started out simple with company picnics, family reunions, church functions, etc. The park office was run out of their kitchen. It quickly grew in popularity, and during the off-season large projects to enhance the park were completed. Over the next several years, revenue from the business was put back into the company for projects such as walkways, restrooms, covered picnic pavilions, BBQ areas, swimming pools and a small kitchen. Then a friend asked about having his daughter’s wedding at the park. He offered to build a gazebo at the lakes edge and so the first wedding took place at Wolf Lakes Park. A few others followed that year. Within the next several years the increase in demand for weddings and decrease in demand for picnics made it evident that weddings and formal evening functions were going to become the main focus of the business.

1994 to 2000 ~ Pavilions are Built

The pavilions started out as sketched drawings on napkins. Then to architectural blueprints were drawn up. The first pavilion was completed in 1994 and the second in 2000. These beautiful rock covered buildings transformed the grounds into a stunning venue for formal evening functions.

2008 ~ Pavilions Remodeled and Kitchen Built

To make guests comfortable no matter the weather, large coolers and heaters were added to the pavilions along with glass pane doors that made them fully enclosable. The ‘old’ 800 square foot kitchen was becoming too small. John and Paula’s son Jordan, Executive Chef of Wolf Lakes Park, was instrumental in designing the new, 3,000 square foot state-of-the-art kitchen. Jordan’s love for cooking began at an early age in the business when John and Paula first started catering at the park. Upon graduating from culinary school, he became Executive Chef for the park and has made it his mission for people to have the best culinary experience for their event.

2012 ~ The Feedlot is Built

With the addition of the new kitchen, Chef Jordan dreamed of an area where he could use his culinary skills to the fullest. Ironically, the area adjacent to the kitchen was once the actual location of where farm animals were fed. The rustic décor came from the farming days of Bob Wolf and was repurposed and reused to build the new area (farmers don’t throw anything away!). The Feedlot is the perfect place for rehearsal dinners, showers, birthday and anniversary parties, and is even open to the public 1 or 2 Fridays a month. Accompanied by its own unique menu, the latest addition to Wolf Lakes Park provides one more option for smaller functions.

2012 ~ A New Generation

Although she grew up in the business, 2012 was when John & Paula’s daughter Elyse transitioned from managing late night events to being trained in the business side in office. Only God could have orchestrated this move….it was Paula’s idea to bring her into the office, as her eventual replacement. Paula knew this would free her up to spend more time with her grandkids! It was a ‘win/win’ for both of them!

2014 ~ A Life Well Lived

In May 2013, Paula was diagnosed with ovarian cancer. After a hard-fought battle, Paula ‘danced’ into the arms of Jesus on October 28, 2014. She lived life to the fullest, giving of herself to all those around her. Her passing left a void no one else could fill. Her wish was to keep the park and family traditions going. And so we do exactly that!
